Liv Migdal | Violin

“One of the most enthralling violinists of our time; she creates timbres on her instrument that captivate the audience!” … “Electrifying” … “with expressive power”… “existential playing”… “from the ear directly to the soul”… “a full-blooded musician”…

Melbourne, Hamburg, Berlin, Oslo, Shanghai: As a soloist with renowned orchestras and conductors, the award-winning musician, Liv Migdal is on tour in concert halls all over the world. Four years ago she made her debut at the Berlin Philharmonie, and a year later at the Elbphilharmonie – where she has been subsequently invited back every year. In addition to invitations to renowned festivals like the Schumann-Fest Bonn, the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele and a number of other festivals in Europe and Asia, the violinist’s concert calendar has recently included tours to Australia, France and Great Britain.

All of Migdal’s CD recordings of works from the Baroque to the present day have received excellent critical acclaim and numerous international awards. These include the highly acclaimed recordings with her pianist partner Marian Migdal, and the Eight Seasons by Vivaldi and Piazzolla with the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin, which was nominated for the International Classical Music Award (ICMA).

After completing her master’s degree with distinction at the Mozarteum Salzburg Liv Migdal, who began her artistic studies at the age of eleven, was honoured with the Paul-Roczek Music Award, Austria’s highest award for outstanding violin playing. Since her early concert appearances, Liv Migdal has been awarded a number of international music prizes and scholarships: 1st Prize International Ruggiero-Ricci Violin Competition Salzburg, International Hindemith Competition Berlin, GWK Music Prize Münster, Fritz Kreisler Competition Vienna, Mozart Society and others). In 2017 she initiated the project “Giving ostracized composers a voice” (funded by the Ministry of Culture).

Following the celebrated premiere of a work for violin and orchestra dedicated by the composer to Liv Migdal, and an artist-in-residence season, the violinist’s fourth CD album “Refuge” featuring solo sonatas by Bach, Ben-Haim and Bartók was released in May 2019. It has already received euphoric praise from international critics. After another acclaimed concert in the Berlin Philharmonie featuring works for violin and orchestra by Karl Amadeus Hartmann and Paul Ben-Haim, further highlights in 2020/21 will include appearances at major international festivals such as the Choriner Musiksommer with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski, the Mosel Music Festival, the Dresden Frauenkirche and tours to the Baltic States, Scandinavia and Australia. Liv Migdal is nominated for the OPUS KLASSIK in three categories with her album „Refuge“.
